Chennai Express has finally managed to surpass the worldwide collections of Aamir Khan starrer 3 Idiots. The film’s total domestic collections right now stands at a cumulative of 290 crores gross at the box office and has made USD 17.30 million from its overseas circuits. Though 3 Idiots has earned a massive USD 25 million, the earnings were made in 2009 when the dollar rate was way lower than its current rate.

Chennai Express still falls way behind in terms of collections made overseas, nevertheless, the producers of the film have already earned more than the producers of 3 Idiots. Hence, Koimoi has been careful in not providing inflation adjusted figures.

This Shah Rukh Khan starrer made a worldwide business of about 399 crores, beating 3 Idiots’ record of 386 crores.
